Regular club match angler Roger Trask fished a Wednesday Classic last week on the Old Ballast Pit and caught a very big Crucian which weighed in at 5lb 2oz. Roger initially didn’t realise the magnitude of his catch until the word got round to the rest of the match anglers. The weather was atrocious, so Roger had a job to find someone to take a picture in the conditions. Once the fish was weighed, photographed and witnessed, the fish was quickly returned to the water. By the end of the match, everyone was telling Roger that it was probably a record sized fish. Unfortunately, the pictures taken were not of good quality and did not do the fish justice. Since the capture has been reported, it has caused a bit of a stir in the press as most people believe it to be a true Crucian. We know the origin of the fish as around 5 years ago, the Club stocked several broodstock Crucians of over 3lb, supplied by Coarsefish UK. Since the, we have had several 3lb+ captures, 2 fish over 4lb and now this one. We won’t know 100% until a recapture occurs, but we are very confident it is one of the stocked true Crucians. Well done Roger.
Young angler Ellis Green visited the prolific New Lagoon at the weekend with his dad Rob and landed this stunning 7lb 12oz Tench. Well done Ellis and a top contender for the Specimen Cup.
Venue regular, Jason Craven got amongst the quality Rudd recently, bagging a nice 2lb specimen
Jason Craven’s 8lb 8oz Tench from the New Lagoon won him the monthly Pallatrax prize in the May edition of the Freshwater Informer. Well done Jason, a selection of the latest range of Pallatrax hooks are on the way to you.
Venue regular Roger Fermor had a cracking session on the New Lagoon recently. Roger caught several nice fish, including Carp, Bream, Roach, Rudd and Tench, with this stunning 8lb 8oz specimen topping the day and giving Roger a new PB.
Last season’s specimen Pike winner Ian Seamer got off to a flyer in trying to retain his title. Using deadbait on Barden Lake, Ian landed this long and nice looking Pike which weighed 15lb.
This season’s Pairs match was a close run affair all the way to the whistle. The winners were top individual Peter Hole and partner Roger Trask with a combined weight of 11lb 13oz. In second spot were Mick Smith and Larry Howard with 5lb 10oz and in third spot were Stuart Cottingham and Martyn Hill with 5lb 7oz.
This was a bit of a tough day for getting any respectable weights together as a dozen of our regular matchmen found out. Mick Smith drew the Golden Peg and subsequently took the honours with a match winning weight of 4lb 6oz plus Mick netted the Golden Peg kitty of £140. In second spot with 3lb 4oz was Stuart Cottingham and in third spot was Tony Hyland with 1lb 12oz.
