PIPPINS FARM LAKE Pippins is a small water of1.5 acres, dug in 1997. Depths range from three feet to well over 12 feet towards the dam end. The Club was responsible for the initial fish stock of tench, rudd, roach and crucian carp. With plenty of natural food, and no predatory fish, these have bred every year. The original stock fish have now grown to a good size; however the multitude of small roach and rudd will make short work of maggot or any small or soft bait. So sweet corn or several grams of shot to punch past the small fish is recommended if you are after quality fish. A whip and maggot method can prove fun and you can, at times, have this pleasant quiet water to yourself shared only with an occasional bird, rabbit or fox. It is recommended that members travel light when visiting Pippins Farm as the walk back up the steep approach to the water is rather gruelling especially when wet. |
